Product description: VL53L4CD Time-of-Flight - Distance sensor - 1-1300mm - I2C - STEMMA QT / Qwiic - Adafruit 5396
Efficient, digital distance sensor made in the Time of Flight technology. Equipped with the VL53L4CD system, it measures distances in the range from 1 mm to 1300 mm with precision at the level of LIDAR sensors. The module communicates via the I2C interface. It has STEMMA QT / Qwiic connectors and standard solder pads. Works with a voltage from 3 V to 5 V.
The product is compatible with Raspberry Pi and Arduino
On the manufacturer's website you will find a detailed user guide that contains instructions for connecting with individual modules. Check!
ToF method - laser distance measurement
The Time-of-Flight method consists in determining the distance based on the duration of time from the emission of a pulse from the infrared laser to its return to the detector. It is independent of the reflection of light from the object. Compared to IR sensors, it is much more precise, there are no linearity problems or double imaging phenomenon.
Pins of the module with the distance sensor VL53L4CD
The module with the VL53L4CD sensor communicates with the microcontroller via the I2C interface. The board is equipped with two Qwiic / STEMMA QT connectors for easy connection with a module with a connector of this type. The outputs of the board are:
- VIN - module power pin from 3 V to 5 V.
- GND - the ground of the system.
- SCL - clock line of the I2C interface.
- SDA - data line of the I2C interface.
- GPIO - interrupt pin with 2.8 V output, can be read by 3.3 V and 5 V microcontrollers.
- XSHUT - disable pin, activated by low state, can be used with 3V and 5V logic.
