Product description: Pololu HP 5: 1 motor
Small, light and powerful Pololu engines are used by robot constructors as drive units. Devices can be supplied with voltages up to 9 V, and useful power over 3 V. The optimal voltage with the best power to endurance ratio is 6 V.
Engine dimensions
The motor body is a cuboid with dimensions of 24 x 10 x 12 mm. The gearbox is 9.27 mm long. There is a 3mm D-shaped shaft at the exit. The total weight is approximately 10g.
Accessories
We offer a number of accessories that work with Pololu micro motors:
- Fasteners
Special whiteorblackmounts have been designed for mounting the motors. An extendedversion is also available, and it is made ofaluminumwith increased strength.
- Engine drivers
Control of the direction and speed of rotation is possible thanks to the drivers of DC motors. The offerincludes both integrated circuitsfor self-soldering as well as ready-to-connectmodulescooperating with sets (eg Arduino).
Video from the final run of the winning structure called Impact at the T-BOT 2013 robot tournament. The robot we made has Pololu micro motors with a10: 1gear.
The store also offers many otherengines.

Pololu HP motor with 5: 1 gearing
Small DC motors with gears are perfect for driving small mechanisms, mobile robots or electronic toys. Low power consumption combined with high torque gives an excellent ratio of possibilities to energy demand - which is why the Pololu motors from the micro series are so eagerly chosen by amateurs of robotics and makers.
HP 5: 1 - Pololu 1000 engine offers a torque of 0.1 kg * cm and an idle speed of 6000 rpm. The current consumption ranges from 120 mA (movement without load) to 1600 mA (with locked shaft). The gear ratio is 5'1 and the drive weight is only 10 g.
Control of Pololu motors from the micro series
When choosing a driver for Pololu micro motors, one should take into account, first of all, their supply voltage and current consumption. It is worth remembering that the actuators of the driver (integrated circuit or - less often - discrete H-bridge transistors) should have a certain reserve of current efficiency in case the motor operates under unfavorable conditions for a long time.
In practice, this translates into the selection of a controller whose maximum continuous output current will be greater than the maximum power supply current of the motor with the shaft stopped. In some cases, the selection of a slightly weaker controller can be considered - as long as the motor in the expected duty cycle does not exceed the peak current declared by the controller manufacturer. One should also pay attention to the time parameters of the driver, working in the conditions of the maximum current load.
How does a DC motor work?
Pololu 1000 is a typical DC commutator motor with a gear reducing the output speed of rotation. Motor brush supply voltage, it is fed to the rotor windings through a commutator which ensures a constant direction of rotation. The current flowing through the rotor windings creates a magnetic field which, interacting with the magnetic field of the stationary stator, causes the rotor to rotate. The rotation direction is changed by reversing the polarity of the motor supply voltage.
Speed reduction by means of a gearbox
DC commutator motors can reach rotational speeds of several thousand revolutions per minute. If your application requires lower RPMs, then the best solution is to use a speed reducing gear. Motors Pololu 1000 is equipped with a 5: 1 gear ratio as standard, which enables more precise control of robots and other machines.
