Pycom - power in a miniature form
Pycom designers have perfectly sensed the trends in the wireless communications market, introducing the L01 hybrid module, which integrates both WiFi and Bluetooth support, as well as long-range connectivity in the increasingly popular LoRa standard (868 MHz band). The L01 controller contains not only an ESP32 microcontroller but also a real-time clock, and thanks to the presence of DMA and an extensive array of hardware serial interfaces, the minicomputer can simultaneously conduct data transmission to/from an external server or mobile device and perform any programmed functions in the device it is embedded in. The user can use up to 24 GPIO lines, two UART controllers, 2x SPI, I2C, an interface for audio converters (I2S), and a micro SD card interface. The good news for professional integrators is that the modules have the required certifications in Europe (CE) and the USA (FCC), and data security is protected by SSL/TLS encryption and WPA Enterprise support.
Sigfox, or there goes the new one
Other modules from the manufacturer's offer - e.g. a miniature SiPy board - support the global telecommunications standard created for the Internet of Things - SigFox. The tiny 55 x 20 mm module is additionally equipped with support for local networks (WiFi and Bluetooth LE 4.2 and 2.0), as well as RTC, DA, digital RGB LED, and a coaxial connector for connecting an external antenna. The minicomputer works with overlays - such as the Pycom Expansion Board, which includes a power jack, micro USB connector, and a number of goldpin slots. Interestingly, even such advanced modules support the completely graphical, intuitive Visuino programming environment.
