Product description: MyoWare 2.0 Muscle Sensor - EMG muscle sensor - SparkFun DEV-18977
EMG MyoWare 2.0 muscle sensor by Advancer Technologies. The board is equipped with three snap connectors to which you can connect other MyoWare 2.0 overlays to realize a complete MyoWare 2.0 ecosystem device. This way of connecting eliminates the need to solder joints in the ecosystem. The top connectors connect to the sensor's EMG power and envelope output, while the bottom connectors connect to the input electrodes. There is a voltage signal at the output of the sensor, the stronger the muscle tension, the greater the voltage at the output. The module is compatible with the Arduino board, for which sample programs were also prepared.
Warning!
MyoWare 2.0 and Cable Shield are not intended to diagnose, cure, alleviate or prevent disease or other conditions in humans or other animals.
How does the MyoWare 2.0 EMG sensor work?
The MyoWare 2.0 muscle sensor measures the electrical potential of the muscle, commonly referred to as surface electromyography (EMG or sEMG). When the brain tells muscles to tense, it sends an electrical signal to them to start recruiting motor units (bundles of muscle fibers that generate strength behind the muscles). The stronger the muscle tension, the more motor units are involved in generating more muscle strength. The greater the number of motor units, the more the electrical activity of the muscles increases. The MyoWare Muscle Sensor 2.0 will analyze this electrical activity and send a signal that represents the amount of muscle contraction.
MyoWare 2.0 ecosystem
MyoWare 2.0 is an ecosystem consisting of overlays that can be easily connected with muscle sensors and Arduino to create a universal electromyography (EMG) sensor. The innovative system of snap-on connectors allows easy connection of modules, and the analog 3.5 mm TRS jack connector is used to connect to the microcontroller by which the raw, filtered and rectified electrical activity of the target muscle is measured. This eliminates the need to solder the joints between the boards.
The manufacturer has prepared a detailed user guide for the MyoWare 2.0 ecosystem.
