UPS emergency power supplies
UPS uninterruptible power supplies are devices that are designed to maintain and temporarily maintain power to other devices in the event that the mains power fails or has incorrect parameters. Protected devices are connected directly to the network, which is constantly monitored. It is checked, among others: shape of the output voltage. When any irregularities are detected, the network is disconnected in a very short time and the current is supplied from the battery through the power supply - the entire process usually takes from 2 ms to 10 ms. The uninterruptible power supply is equipped with a built-in inverter, thanks to which the device converts direct voltage from the battery into alternating voltage at the output.
UPS uninterruptible power supply – what else is worth knowing about it?
During standby, the discharged battery is recharged with a small current. However, if the battery is full, a small amount of electricity is only needed to power the control system, which monitors the condition of the entire system. This type of solution was used to reduce energy costs. Such a system minimizes energy losses and the system does not generate higher maintenance costs (low power consumption). The described type of UPS is Offline, which is perfect during a power failure.
Application of UPS uninterruptible power supplies
These types of devices are often used at home, for example to secure computer operation. Sudden cutting off the power supply to a desktop computer may result in damage to some components - one of the most common cases is the loss of data from the hard drive.
