Product description: Zumo 32u4 - minisumo robot with OLED and HP 50:1 motors - complex, Arduino compatible - Pololu 4991
Complex educational fighting robot platform, based on ATmega32u4 microcontroller with Arduino bootloader uploaded, programmable via USB. The robot is equipped with two Pololu HP 50:1 motors featuring a high speed of 625 rpm but low torque of 1.1 kg*cm. The platform also has a small OLED screen, line tracking sensors, ultrasonic distance sensors, accelerometer, compass and gyroscope. To start playing, just insert the batteries - four big sticks - and program the robot by connecting it to the computer via a microUSB cable using the Arduino IDE environment.
Pololu Zumo 32u4 robot main board
The robot's main controller is based on the ATmega32u4 chip, also used in the Pololu A-Star board. Thanks to the Arduino bootloader loaded on the microcontroller, programming of the robot is done via a microUSB cable and Arduino IDE environment. In addition to the built-in microcontroller, the platform also features: four ultrasonic distance sensors, a matrix of line tracking sensors, a dual motor controller with encoders, OLED display, buzzer, accelerometer, compass and gyroscope.
Kit contents
The platform has been completely assembled by the manufacturer, it contains the necessary electronic and mechanical components for proper functioning of the robot. The user has at his disposal
- two DC motors with 50:1 HP gearbox (630 rpm, 1.1 kg*cm),
- mounted bar with reflection sensors - to detect the edge of the ring (dohyo),
- integrated motor controller - dual channel H-bridge DRV8838,
- simple sound generator - piezoelectric buzzer,
- 3-axis digital accelerometer with magnetometer - can be used as a system for detecting collisions with opponents,
- 3-axis digital gyroscope L3GD20H - for angular velocity measurement (detection of robot rotation),
- user accessible button connected to pin 12 of Arduino, which can be used, for example, to select startup mode,
- small OLED display with resolution of 128 x 64 px,
- voltage stabilizing inverter from four AA batteries,
- detailed user guide available on-line,
- Arduino libraries for all above electronic components
Dimensions of Zumo robot platform
The Pololu Zumo fighting robot has been designed in such a way that the outline of the assembled structure fits into a 10 x 10 cm square, which is in accordance with the international rules of robot fighting.
Additional elements
The main board of the robot gives the possibility to connect various additional elements extending the capabilities of the robot. The user can use, for example, a sensor to detect the opponent in the ring. For this purpose, optical sensors or ultrasonic sonars can be used.
