Product description: S13V20F5 - step-up/step-down converter - 5V 2A - Pololu 4085
A small step-up / step-down voltage conver ter with 5V output voltage and 2A current capacity. The module can be supplied with voltage from 2.8 V to 22 V. Step-up / step-down converters are used in projects where there are voltage variations due to the use of batteries, for example. The efficiency of the regulator is between 85% and 95% and can deliver between 1 A and 2.5 A depending on the input voltage. The module has undervoltage lockout, output overvoltage protection, and overcurrent protection. An over-temperature shutdown function also helps prevent overheating damage, and a soft-start function limits the inrush current and gradually increases the output voltage during startup.
Main features of the step-up / step-down converter
- Input voltage: from 2.8 V to 22 V
- Output voltage: 5 V with 3% accuracy
- Typical maximum output current: 1 A to 2.5 A, depending on the input voltage
- Typical efficiency: 85% to 95%, depending on input voltage and load
- Typical idle current: 10 mA to 20 mA no-load
- Input undervoltage lockout and input surge protection
- Soft-start function limits inrush current and gradually increases output voltage
- Output current limitation to 5 A
- Overcurrent protection and overheat cut-off
- Fixed switching frequency: ~500 kHz
- Compact size: 8.9 x 12.1 x 5.6 mm
Module pinouts
The module has three pinouts: input voltage (VIN), ground (GND) and output voltage (VOUT). The input voltage (VIN) connector supplies the inverter with power from 2.8 V to 22 V. The VOUT connector is the 5 V output from the inverter. A goldpin solder strip is included in the kit. You can use it to plug the module directly into the pin board.
Typical efficiency of the inverter
The efficiency of a voltage regulator module is denoted as (power output) / (power input), it is an important measure of its performance, especially when it comes to battery life or heat generation.
Maximum continuous output current
The maximum output current achieved by an inverter depends on the input voltage, as well as other factors such as ambient temperature, airflow, and heat absorption. The graph shows the maximum output currents that the controller can deliver continuously at room temperature, without airflow or additional heat dissipation.
Resting current of the system
The resting current is the current that the inverter uses to power itself, and the graph shows this as the input voltage.
