Product description: Step-down converter - ST1S10PHR: 0,8 V -15,3 V 3 A
DC-DC step-down converter. Power supply: 2,5V-18V. Maximum current 3 A. Housing SO8. Output voltage: 0,8 V - 15,3 V.
Switching converters have much higher efficiency than linear regulators. However, they require more additional external components. Incorrectly designed can be a source of interference.
Parameters of the ST1S10PHR converter
- Supply voltages: 2.5 V to 18 V
- Output voltage: 0.8 V to 15.3 V
- Maximum output current: 3 A
- Efficiency level: 90%
- Frequency: from 400 kHz to 1.2 MHz
The selection method of coils and capacitors is described in detail in the documentation. The resistors are calculated using the formula:
R1 = R2 x (Vout - Vfb) / Vfb
Vout - output voltage we want to achieve
Vfb = 0,8 V
R2 - typical recommended value of 20 kOm
For Vout = 5V, the value of R1 will be 105 kOm.
To calculate the value of external components you can use the calculator available at www.masterlab.com.pl.

PCB design
When designing the PCB, pay special attention to the ground supply to the circuit. The tracks should be thick. Capacitors as close as possible to the pins of the converter. In the documentation the manufacturer suggests how to place the components.
