Connection of the ACS714 current sensor
The sensor requires a supply voltage in the range from 4.5 V to 5 V connected to the pins marked as VCC (+) and GND (ground). The output is a voltage signal proportional to the intensity of the measured current. When VCC is 5V, the output is half-centered, which is 2.5V. The output value increases by 66 mV per 1 A when the measured current is positive, otherwise it decreases.
Main features of the ACS714 current sensor
- The system is designed for the current flowing in both directions (from -30 A to 30 A)
- Due to the low resistance of the system (1.2 mΩ) and the connections, the power losses are very small.
- Thanks to the use of the Hall effect, the current paths are isolated from the logical part.
- Bandwidth up to 80kHz with the possibility of reduction by adding an optional capacitor
- Precision of 1.5% at room temperature.
Additional filtration
The integrated circuit has an internal 1.7 kΩ resistive filter, there is a 1 nF capacitor on the board, which together forms a low pass filter with a cutoff frequency of 90 kHz. The user can modify the filter by installing a capacitor in the pinscalled "filter". The cut-off frequency can be calculated from the formula:
F = 1 / (2πRC) = 1 / (11kΩ * (1 nF + Cf))
whereCfis the capacity of the soldered capacitor in the "filter" pins.
