Leads of Pololu D24V3AHV - step-down converter 4 V - 25 V 0.3 A
The module has four pins:
- VIN- input voltage,
- GND- ground potential,
- VOUT- output voltage,
- SHDN- disabling the system.
If a low state appears on theSHDNpin (below 0.3 V), the converter will be turned off and the current consumption will not exceed 20 uA. Entering a high state (above 2.3 V) reactivates the system. The output can be permanently connected to the VIN or left unconnected if the switch-off mode will not be used.
The connectors are properly labeled on the board. The pitch of the pins is 2.54 mm (popular goldpin connectors). The module can be plugged intothe breadboard, connected withwiresor soldered into a dedicated PCB.
The output voltage is set with a potentiometer. Setting a voltage higher than the input voltage will not damage the system. However, there will be large oscillations. So it is recommended not to set the voltage higher than the input voltage.
Selecting the output voltage
Turning the potentiometer clockwise increases the output voltage.
Efficiency and output current
Efficiency is defined as the ratio of the output power to the input power (Power out) / (Power in). This is a very important parameter when working with portable energy sources (batteries and accumulators), where the working time per one charging cycle is important. The dependence of the efficiency on the input voltage is shown in the graphs below.
Dangerous voltage pulses
When connecting the power supply to the module, dangerous, short electric pulses of large amplitude (so-called pins) may appear, which may permanently damage the system. Pololu tests show that for voltages above 20V, the pins can have an amplitude exceeding 42V. In order to protect against this undesirable phenomenon, it is recommended to solder a capacitor with a value of at least 33uF as close to the converter's power pins as possible.
