Product description: Qwiic Soil Moisture Sensor - SparkFun SEN-17731
Soil moisture sensor module from SparkFun. It is equipped withtwo large padsthat are the sensor probes, which measure moisture by detecting achange in resistance. The more water there is in the soil, the better the conductivity between the probes will be, resulting in lower resistance and higher SIG. The module has aQwiicconnector soldered in, which is used for simple connection to a main board equipped with the same connector. For proper sensor operation it is enough to connect VCC and GND pins to e.g.Arduino. The SIG connector will display information about the amount of water in the soil. A common problem with soil sensors is their short lifespan due to corrosion. SparkFun's sensor has been coated with a layer of gold (ENIG - Electroless Nickel Immersion Gold or immersion gold) to protect it from this problem.
The product is compatible with Arduino.
The manufacturer has prepared auser guidewith sample code for Arduino modules, which makes it much easier to start using the module. The guide also includes instructions for protecting the sensor from weather conditions.
SparkFun Qwiic connection system
TheSparkFun Qwiic ecosystem is low error prone and allowssimple and fast connection ofsensors, actuators, overlays and I2C cables. Modules equipped with Qwiic system connector have4-pinJSTconnectorwith1 mmpitch. Thanks to this solution, the connector does not take up much space on the board and makes it impossible to connect the plug in the reverse way, minimizing the risk of making a mistake while connecting the wires.
