Waterproof probes
Waterproof probes are used when measuring the temperature of liquids and in conditions where the humidity or level of contamination precludes the use of a probe without additional protection. A waterproof probe for temperature measurement usually consists of a cable (of different length), which on one side is ended with a temperature sensor and on the other side has a connector used for connecting a device which enables data reading. Individual elements and places of their connection are insulated with a special coating in such a way that no water or dirt gets into them. Most of the probes are powered from the device designed for reading the measurement data - the power cable is one of the wires hidden inside the insulating shell.
Data reading devices
An appropriate reading and data display device (e.g. a thermostat) is necessary to know the results of the probe measurements. Depending on the type of sensor used to build a given probe model, the reading device may be equipped with a mechanism interpreting data from digital or analogue sensors (often both). The information about the readout temperature can be presented directly on the device (for example by means of a tilt indicator or display) or transmitted further - many models offer the possibility of WiFi connection and remote access to the obtained data. Then, using a smartphone, tablet or computer, the person authorized to receive information about the measured values can check the current temperature status from anywhere in the world. Many data reading devices have a built-in probe, so you do not have to buy this item separately.
How do I choose the right model?
Matching the product to the intended application is already halfway to success, so it is worth taking some time to choose the ideal model. In the case of waterproof probes designed for temperature measurement, you should first of all pay attention to the measuring range (in this case usually the same as the permissible operating temperature, although extreme ranges can only be tolerated for a short time), the accuracy of the measurement, the length of the cable and the fit to the data reading device. The measuring range of waterproof probes equipped with DS18B20 temperature sensor (the most popular model in this type of application) is from -55°C to 125°C, while the accuracy of measurement is about ±0.5°C, however it may vary depending on the temperature. In case of waterproof probes, which are to be used away from the data reading device, it is worth to pay special attention to purchase a model with a cable of appropriate length. The probe must also be matched to the equipment with which it will work - the most important thing is to support the same communication standard (e.g. 1-Wire), to have suitable connectors or wire leads, and to be able to be powered from the reading device (pay attention to the voltage and current values - otherwise the probe may be damaged).
What products can you find in this category?
In this category we offer a wide range of waterproof probes for temperature measurement, as well as measuring devices equipped with probes. Here you will find products from popular and established brands such as Eura-tech, BleBox, Inveo, Sonoff, DFRobot and SparkFun. The high quality of materials used and careful workmanship guarantee durability and reliable operation, which is particularly important for components exposed to such demanding conditions. Measuring devices and waterproof probes available in this category are an excellent complement to standalone electronic designs as well as larger systems (for example, intelligent building installations).
