Product description: S7V7F5 - step-up / step-down converter - 5V 1A - Pololu 2119

The converter is used to supply 5V circuits. The system has a wide range of input voltages, which makes it perfect for designs powered by batteries. The use of S7V7F5 ensures the stability of the power supply during the entire battery discharge cycle. In order to increase the reliability, the module is equipped with short-circuit protection and an automatic power cut-off system when the permissible operating temperature is exceeded.

Our offer also includes a kit for buildinga smartphone charger with on-line instructions.

Usage method

The module is extremely easy to use, it has three basic outputs:

  • VIN- input voltage in the range of 2.7 V - 11.8 V. At the lower one, the module will not turn on, the higher one may damage the system.
  • GND- ground potential.
  • VOUT- output voltage 5 V.

The permissible input voltage range is from 2.7 V to 11.8 V. At a lower value, the regulator will not activate. Higher voltage may damage the system.

The output voltage has been set to 5V, but it can be up to 5.2V with little or no load.

The connectors are properly labeled on the board. The raster of the pins is 2.54 mm (popular goldpin connectors). The module can be plugged intothe breadboard, connected withwiresor soldered into a dedicated PCB.

Output current

The maximum current that can flow through the system depends on the value of the input voltage. This relationship is presented in the diagram below:

Efficiency

This parameter is of particular importance for battery operation, when it is important that the system works as long as possible on a single charge. The efficiency of the converter depends on the intensity of the flowing current and the input voltage (see diagram below). On average, it is at the level of 85-95%, which allows you to use practically the maximum energy from the battery.

Maximum output current as a function of input voltage.

Voltage peaks (pins)

In electronic circuits, the starting current can cause the so-called pins, i.e. sudden voltage surges above a certain level. If the amplitude of the pin exceeds the allowable value of the regulator, it may be damaged. Therefore, if the system will be powered with a voltage above 9V or the load will have high inductance, we recommend soldering a capacitor of 33uF / 25V or higher as close to the system as possible between VIN and GND.

Efficiency of the converter depending on the current consumed.
