Product description: E-Ink capacitive touch display E-paper - 2,9'' 296x128px - SPI/I2C - black/white - for Raspberry Pi Pico - Waveshare 20051
Touch screen display by Waveshare made ine-papertechnology, its diagonal is2,9" and resolution is 296x 128 px. The screen is designed for use withRaspberry Pi Pico. The image is displayed in two colors: black and white. It communicates throughSPIandI2Cinterfaces (It is necessary to use both interfaces for full functionality). The e-paper technology makes this type of display suitable for use in e-book and electronic magazine readers.
The manufacturer provides aproduct wikipage that provides information about the module's pinouts and a user guide.
Touchscreen e-paper display for Raspberry Pi Pico.
Main features of the e-paper display
- 2.9" screen with 296 x 128 px resolution and capacitive touch
- Supports 5 touch points, user-defined screen wake-up gesture
- No backlight, retains last displayed image for long time after power disconnection
- Ultra low power consumption, power is only required to refresh the screen
- SPI / I2C interface (It is necessary to use both interfaces for full functionality)
What is an e-paper?
E-paper displays use electrophoretic microcapsule technology for display: charged particles suspended in a transparent liquid will move to the sides of the microcapsule when an electric field is applied, making the microcapsule visible by reflecting ambient light, just like traditional printed paper. The e-paper display clearly displays images/text in lamplight or natural light, requires no backlight, and has a viewing angle of nearly 170°. This type of display is usually used in e-book readers because of its paper-like effect.
Pinouts of the e-paper display module
The e-paper display module has a socket for direct connection to the Raspberry Pi Pico. It uses such pins as:
- VSYS - input voltage (default)
- 3V3(OUT) - input voltage
- GND - ground
- GP6|TP_SDA - I2C data line of the touch controller
- GP7|TP_SCL - I2C clock line of the touch controller
- GP8|e-Paper_DC - data / command pin, high for data, low for commands
- GP9|e-Paper_CS - SPI chip select pin, activated by low state
- GP10|e-Paper_CLK - SPI SCK pin
- GP11|e-Paper_DIN - SPI MOSI pin
- GP12|e-Paper_ERST - external reset, activated by a low state
- GP13|e-Paper_BUSY - busy status output
- GP16|TP_TRST - touch controller reset, low state activated
- GP17|TP_INT - touch controller interrupts
- GP2|KEY0 - user key 0
- GP3|KEY1 - user key 1
- GP4|KEY2 - user key 2
- RUN - reset button
