Product description: Grove - CAN Bus - I2C module - Seeedstudio 113020111
MCP2551 and MCP2515 I2C CAN-BUS module with Grove connector, allowing to use Arduino to communicate with CAN-BUS for e.g. vehicle diagnostics (the chip works with OBD-II automotive interface). It has screw connector, so it's possible to connect to OBD-II port of the vehicle using two wires. The module uses I2C bus with default address 0x25.
Product is compatible with Arduino.
Manufacturer prepared user guide with library for Arduino.
MCP2551 and MCP2515 chips in CAN Bus - I2C module
TheMCP2551 is a CAN transceiver that serves as an interface between the CAN protocol controller and the physical bus. The MCP2551 provides differential transmission and reception for the CAN protocol controller and is fully compatible with the ISO-11898 standard. The MCP2515 is a second generation standalone CAN controller. It is compatible in terms of functionality with MCP2510, but contains a lot of improvements in terms of bandwidth and data filtering.
Presented product is based on high-performance CAN bus controller MCP2515 and CAN bus transmitter-receiver MCP2551, providing CAN bus communication speed up to 1 Mbps. In addition, on the board there is an Atmega168PA microcontroller.
Elements layout on the board
1. Grove connector
2. LEDs indicating power supply and operating status
RX, TX - LEDs of transmitter and receiver 4.
4. 3.5 mm terminal for connection to CAN bus (CAN_H and CAN_L)
5. 120 Ω resistor
The illustration shows the module in Serial CAN Bus version, hence some differences in appearance of the product. However, the description can also be used for CAN Bus - I2C offered in our shop.
