Conductive threads are an amazing invention. These are 2in1 devices - it has been developed to simultaneously replace the sewing thread for diodes and the cable supplying power from a battery placed elsewhere in the clothes.
In this category, you can cheaply buy various spools of conductive thread with a standard length of about 45 meters (or you can also choose a smaller amount of thread). The product is designed and made in such a way that both hand sewing and sewing on a sewing machine are possible without any problems.
Electro-Fashion threads are made of real silver (this is why they cost much more than standard sewing threads). Silver is a precious metal with very good conductive properties. For this reason, the silver-coated conductive threads presented have excellent conductivity. As for the electrical parameters of the product, the resistance of such a wire varies between 40 Ω and 160 Ω over a distance of one meter. However, the designers did not forget about the strength conditions that each solid thread for sewing clothes must meet. The product presented here is able to withstand a load of up to 4.2 kg!
We owe this effect to a meticulous, unique technology. The threads consist of different yarns, each of which has been coated with a micron layer of silver, and then in groups of 16 they form a basic weave. The thread weave prepared in this way is then paired to form the basis for the final thread. Each thread consists of up to 3 such pairs, which is why this product is extremely durable and has excellent conductive properties.
Smart clothing control and power supply
With Kitronik's solutions you can create various smart wear projects. Thus, the only limitation would be your own creativity. On the other hand, it does not mean any difficulties as the system has been designed to be very simple, accessible to anyone, even people who are not interested in sewing or electronics. For a simple smart wear project, all you need to do is start with Kitronik's conductive thread, a diode, power supply and a switch. A more complicated project will require the use of a simple controller or microprocessor. A good example often used for this type of purpose can be the BBC micro: bit Go (an educational module with a Cortex M0 microprocessor and with a built-in accelerometer, Bluetooth module, 5x5 matrix with LED diodes).
