The display is an essential part of devices such as computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone. It is hard to imagine using them without a display, then they would be completely useless. In the case of a touch matrix, a TFT-type display with a structure based on thin-film transistors is used. Its characteristic feature is its dual functionality, as it is both an input and output device, and thus serves to enter and display information. It is currently the most frequently used technology in modern devices, although one must be aware that OLED is currently the leading technology. TFT stands for Thin Film Transistor, which means the type of transistor that is used in color liquid crystal displays. The production of such transistors involves the use of a liquid mixture consisting of silicon and hydrogen, which is dissolved in an organic solvent. Furthermore, the method of rotary application of warm semiconductors is also used. In TFT matrixes, each pixel is responsible for controlling the four transistors. Three of them control the primary colours and only one the brightness of the displayed image. Thanks to this solution, it is possible to achieve very high resolutions, distinguished by very good color sharpness and the fastest access time.
TFT matrixes are used in more complex solutions and are dedicated for more precise displays. They are used in high quality monitors, where sharpness and accuracy of the displayed image play an important role. As any solution, the TFT matrix has its disadvantages. For some, it is a smaller viewing angle, but for stationary devices it is a good option. A larger viewing angle is rather required in mobile devices such as tablets. For this reason TFT displays are still very popular despite this drawback. A smaller viewing angle compensates for very good image parameters.
IPS displays
Another type of display you will find in our offer is the IPS display. It stands for In-Plane Switching. Its appearance in 1996 was the answer to the need and desire to eliminate problems characteristic of TN screens. At that time, the position of the liquid crystal was changed, which resulted in better image quality. In addition, better color reproduction and a wider viewing angle were achieved. A characteristic feature of IPS screens is a wide viewing angle, thanks to which the image can be seen from almost anywhere in the room. Their great advantage is also a wide range of colors, which is appreciated by players and graphic designers. However, the reproduction of black is weaker and this is one of the disadvantages of IPS screens. If we have an exceptionally skillful eye, it may turn out that in some cases we will notice a gray color in black. Compared to previous solutions, IPS displays have improved the refresh rate, which translates into better animation quality.
So what to choose - TFT display or IPS? The first option certainly impresses with the high quality of the emitted image. However, if you are looking for a display that will reproduce colors most faithfully, a better choice will be the LED IPS display, which additionally provides a larger viewing angle. These are matrixes, which have been used, among others, in desktops, smartphones and tablets. It is worth reaching for them if they will be used for games, watching movies or downloading graphic files.
