The filament is the thermoplastic thread used by 3D printers to print real objects. By using different filaments, you can achieve different results. Choosing a high-quality filament is as important as buying the right 3D printer. Why? Because it’s the filament that becomes your 3D object, and the printing process can only succeed if the best 3D printing material is used. Botland.store offers a large selection of filaments for your 3D printer: PLA, ABS, PETG, and many more. Before buying a filament, check if the chosen product is compatible with your 3D printer. Remember that not all filament types are suitable for all printers and temperatures. The most popular filaments for 3D printing are ABS (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene) and PLA (Polylactic Acid). Both of these filaments you will find at our catalog at reasonable prices. We offer high-quality products and quick delivery. If you have any doubts or questions, don’t hesitate to contact us. 3D filament - an essential component of 3D printing
The name filament comes from the Latin word " filum ", meaning " thread ". This is a very accurate term, because the 3D printing filament looks like a thread - it is round in cross-section and wound on a spool . Devices such as 3D printers and 3D printing pens use these fibers to create three-dimensional objects . The material is unwound from the spool, heated slightly above the glass transition temperature and extruded, i.e. pushed out through a small hole in the print head nozzle. The filaments are available in two standard diameters - 1.75 mm and 2.85 mm. Filament - Botland Store is the perfect place to buy it.
3D printing filament - Various types of thermoplastics
Filaments made of various plastics are currently available on the market. Depending on the specific application, you can select the appropriate printing material so that the manufactured item meets its design assumptions. In our store you can find materials such as: ABS, HIPS, PLA, PETG or TPU . Plastics such as ABS or PETG are suitable for printing all elements, including structural elements, thanks to their mechanical strength. PLA is an equally universal material - it is easier to print than ABS, and only slightly less durable; it is also biodegradable. TPU is a printable elastomer and HIPS is water-soluble. Filament - the price of the product depends on its type and quantity on the spool.
Basic parameters - Filaments for 3D printers
The plastics mentioned above differ in chemical and physical parameters , which translates into their different operational parameters - both in the finished product and in the 3D printer itself. From the point of view of a 3D printer, the most important parameter to know is the glass transition temperature, above which the temperature of the hot extruder nozzle in the printer head should be set. Recommendations regarding the presence and temperature of a heated print bed are also important. From a mechanical point of view, parameters regarding the strength of the material and its density are important.
3D filaments - Material for a 3D printer with special applications
There are special filaments available on the market, dedicated to niche issues. the most popular of them are filaments made of flexible materials , which allow the production of flexible elements, which, thanks to their flexibility, can fulfill the functions of seals, elastic elements, etc. Electrically conductive filaments and magnetic materials are also available. Water-soluble plastics constitute a separate class - they are used in printers with two heads to print supports for 3D elements, which can then be dissolved to simplify the finishing of the printed detail.
Filaments - FAQ
This question usually suggests that the user is just starting out with 3D printing . Good filaments for beginners are PLA and PETG . PLA is used most often, PET-G is easy and has some features in common with ABS filaments.
The material of the filament depends on the type of 3D printer , the nature of the print and the manufacturing technology used. The most common filaments can be found in Botland - the filter list on the left allows you to conveniently sort them. Another option is 3D printing resins.
Filaments are materials from which 3D printing is made. These are thermoplastics, i.e. plastics called polymers, which melt when heated rather than burning, which allows them to be shaped and formed, and solidify when cooled. Most often they are wound on a spool.
The most commonly used materials for choosing filaments are polyactide (PLA), acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS), polyethylene terephthalate with glycol (PETG or PET-G) and thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer (TPU). They have long been used in the production of various consumer goods - you know TPU, for example, from smartphone cases.
One spool is enough for a long time, considering the fact that a bundle of plastic on a one-kilogram spool can be up to several hundred meters long! At Botland you will also find filaments with a lower weight - a cost-effective solution when you print less frequently or less often. Print parameters and the 3D printer itself are also important.
