TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) is a flexible filament, also known as TPE (thermoplastic elastomer). There are several types of TPE, but the thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) is the most popular flexible 3D filaments. As the name suggests, this material is elastic, and that's why it can be easily stretched and bent. From all flexible materials, TPU is the easiest to print with, and it's commonly described as the midpoint between hard plastic and silicone. A combination of useful properties of these materials ensures that TPU is flexible but retains its shape, cannot break, attracts dust, and hardly scratches. This material can also be completely transparent. At our store, you will find a wide selection of high-quality TPU filaments from Devil Design manufacturer. We provide different colors of these filaments, such as black, white, gray, red, or natural. If you have any questions or doubts, please contact us. Our customer service will help you to choose the best solution for your needs.

TPU and Flex filaments – parameters and their practical implications
The TPU and Flex material is a thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer that has the characteristics of rubber, but is superior to it in terms of utility values. Its most important advantages include not only great flexibility, but also excellent chemical resistance to oils, greases and other substances, as well as to weather conditions . Prints made using TPU filaments are resistant to mechanical loads and abrasion , and also perfectly dampen shocks, vibrations and impacts . TPU details can be easily separated from the printer's worktable, while maintaining excellent adhesion between individual print layers. Flexible filament is one of the most interesting types of materials available on the market.
TPU and Flex material - What should you remember?
3D printing using TPU and Flex filaments is quite a demanding task - as in the case of any flexible material. Due to the high capacity for mechanical deformation - which is a highly valued advantage in the final detail - it should be remembered that printers with a Bowden extruder are not suitable for working with TPU filaments. Due to the long path that the filament has to travel in this type of machine (calculated from the point of contact with the extruder knurl to the print head), obtaining appropriate control over the supply of material may be very difficult or impossible. Printers with a direct extruder integrated with the head do not have this difficulty . It is recommended to set the head temperature (210 - 230 °C) and table temperature (20 - 80 °C) quite low, as well as to thoroughly cool the printout and reduce the printing (extrusion) speed. Flexible filament is a very plastic material, but also demanding.
TPU and Flex - Elastic material - Rubber filament
TPU and Flex filaments are perfect for printing details subject to mechanical loads and designed to reduce vibrations and absorb the mechanical energy of collisions . For this reason, it is a very good idea to use TPU in the production of bumpers, elements that dampen mechanical vibrations (e.g. camera vibration isolators or printed circuit boards), bumpers (e.g. for mobile robots) and other elements with a similar range of applications. High chemical resistance allows for 3D printing of unusual seals and elements operating in grease or oil environments . The different colors of the filaments available in our store allow you to choose the appropriate color of the material for details working "in view" - you can choose from white, black, silver (a la aluminum) and red filaments. The TPU material is a kind of filament - rubber, which can be used in many interesting applications.
TPU and Flex filaments (i.e. thermoplastic polyurethane) are used, among others, for printing flexible mechanical elements. TPU and Flex filaments are similar to rubber in terms of flexibility. Once pressed, the prints immediately return to their original shape. The use of TPU and Flex filament includes, among others: medical, automotive and sports industries. Increased abrasion resistance as well as the possibility of safe contact with oils, greases and selected chemicals additionally expands the possibilities of using 3D prints made of TPU and flex.
Basic guidelines for printing with TPU and Flex filaments include setting the heatbed temperature in the range from about 20°C to about 80°C. The nozzle temperature should be set in the range from 210°C to 240°C. 3D printers capable of printing from TPU and Flex materials can be successfully used to print accessories for mobile devices (e.g. cases), toys, and everyday items. In addition, the TPU and Flex thermoplastic material is perfect for printing various types of tools.
