How to choose a proper antenna? Frequencies

By definition, antenna is a device that converts electromagnetic waves into electrical signals. The basic criterion when choosing such a device should be the frequency at which the antenna operates. Depending on the frequencies to which the antenna is adapted, it can work with various devices and systems.

The GPS signal operates at 1575.42 MHz and 1227.6 MHz. Currently, the GSM signal used most often uses the 900 MHz and 1800 MHz frequencies. The Wi-Fi signal works in the band 2400 to 2485 MHz or 4915 to 5825 MHz.

You should also remember to check the parameters of the device to which the antenna is to be connected (radio, TV, router, modem) before purchasing.

Antenna selection – what device can you choose?

The Botland store offers a number of antennas adapted to various tasks. We have telescopic antennas with SMA connectors, operating in the range from 75 MHz to 1 GHz. We also offer the purchase of professional Wi-Fi antennas for SiPy and LoPy modules (with 3 decibel amplification). We also have self-adhesive antennas with a U.FL connector (operating in the 2.4 GHz band, compatible with the Bluetooth and XBee interface). The latter product can be easily used to work with microcomputers such as LattePanda (gain up to 6 dB). Also check the Wi-Fi antennas with 12 dB amplification with RP-SMA connector. We also offer antennas for DVB-T television - internal, external or with built-in LTE filters.

If you are looking for a small antenna please take a look at the smaller GPS antenna for small mobile projects that is magnetically attached. The products are equipped with SMA connectors. GSM antennas are also a very important part - including LTE antennas (for example IoT set for PyCom FiPy / GiPy devices). There are also GSM / 3G / HSDPA antennas with 11 dB amplification, four-band or in a self-adhesive version.

GSM / GPS / Wi-Fi antennas – additional information

If you need to buy an antenna, first of all you should check what type of antenna you really need. Is such an antenna should be the only source of the signal reaching your device, or should it be used to amplify the signal already received?

For example, if it is to be an LTE antenna for your router, be sure to contact the network operator you use and ask if this type of signal is available at all in a given place. Also pay attention to whether the operator has given you the opportunity to retrofit the existing network infrastructure with additional elements. If you find out that the signal is coming, but it will be weak - choose a high-gain antenna. So you should pay particular attention to the decibel value (dB).
