IDC wires and connectors - An IDC connector is an electrical connector designed to connect to insulated wires placed tightly together as a ribbon. IDC connectors can be crimped onto wires without stripping the insulation, using special crimping machines. When properly made, the connectors fuse with the conductors in the cable, creating a theoretically reliable, leak-proof connection. A set with an IDC connector forms what is called a tub connector, sometimes called an edge connector. This is a type of multi-pin pin connector that easily connects multiple signals together.

IDC connectors and ribbon cables for electronic connections
The IDC ribbon cable is designed for use with multi-pin IDC connectors so that multiple connections can be made simultaneously while applying the edge connector to the wires. The connectors in the IDC cable are not designed to be reused, but can often be reused if care is taken when removing the cable. IDC connectors are installed on ribbon cables using special crimpers, however, with caution, small connectors can be installed in your hands or using a vice. Using an IDC cable , you can connect microcontrollers in many different projects!
Compact tub connectors for carrying a large number of signals
Tray sockets used with IDC connectors allow for rigid connection of ribbons to printed circuit boards. These types of connectors have appropriate guides to ensure that the cables are arranged in the right way. The tub connectors are available in vertical form and edge connectors, i.e. at an angle of 90 degrees. Moreover, to make this connection even easier to implement, pin 1 is usually marked in red on the connector body.
Easy installation of connectors on ribbon cables
Ribbon cables allow for very easy installation of IDC connectors or ribbon connectors. Our store offers both colored IDC tapes (each wire is a different color) and gray ones, in which the first wire in the tape is usually marked with a red stripe, a convex molded spine or markings printed on the cable insulation. IDC connectors are installed on ribbon cables using special crimpers, which can also be purchased in our store. IDC tape is used for connections used in electronics, so it will work in many systems. It should be noted that the IDC tape can be divided into several smaller ones, which makes it an extremely practical product.
In the Botland store you will also find an IDC connector and an IDC plug , which will be useful in many electronics projects.
IDC cables and connectors - FAQ
The IDC connector is a popular type of electrical connector used to connect to insulated wires. The wires are located close to each other and together form a flexible tape. Thanks to the use of special crimpers, there is no need to remove the insulation from the wires before crimping. Correct crimping guarantees a durable and strong connection.
IDC connectors together with the so-called tub sockets enable a rigid connection of the tape, e.g. with a printed circuit board . The tape itself is flexible, ensuring easy assembly and disassembly and connection in hard-to-reach places. Thanks to the use of special guides, the cables are arranged at the appropriate distance from each other. Depending on the needs and design requirements, both edge tubular connectors (at an angle of 90 degrees) and straight tubular connectors can be used. IDC cables and connectors allow you to easily connect a large number of signals together.
