What are resin dyes used for?
Epoxy resin is a popular material used in 3D printing (SLA, LCD, etc.) and many other fields. Epoxy resin is naturally colourless, so objects and prints created with it are transparent when exposed to light. The easiest way to achieve a colour effect is to paint the finished parts after they have dried. However, this solution can be problematic, because even a good quality paint can crumble and fall off after some time, and besides it is very difficult to obtain satisfactory results on more complicated shapes (for example, small details, openwork construction fragments or laminates). This problem can be solved in two ways - using colored resin or coloring it yourself. On the market there is a wide choice of resins in various shades, but they are often significantly more expensive than the transparent ones. Therefore, a more economical and flexible solution is to add the dye to the epoxy resin yourself, which allows you to get the desired color.
How do epoxy resin dyes and pigments work?
Dyes and pigments for epoxy resins usually come in liquid or powder form. When the liquid (dye) is added to the resin, it dissolves quickly, coloring the material to the desired shade. Powdered pigments, on the other hand, are not soluble and the coloring effect is achieved by physical mixing with the resin.
