Product description: SparkFun Qwiic MP3 Trigger - MP3 player - SparkFun DEV-19030

SparkFun Qwiic MP3 Trigger is an MP3 music player module. It is equipped with a microSD memory card slot for playing music files. The module supports playing up to 255 songs from a memory card with a capacity of 128 MB to 32 GB . The used MP3 WT2003S chip provides access to the microSD slot via a USB connector and USB decoding. The board is equipped with an ATtiny84 microcontroller that transmits I2C commands and supports the MP3 decoder. The MP3 player also has a TPA2005D1 class D amplifier with a power of 1.4 W. On the board you can also find a USB type C connector, two Qwiic connectors, a mini Jack connector and a two-pin connector for connecting speakers. Thanks to this connector, there is no need to solder, but the manufacturer has also made it possible to solder goldpin connectors in order to, for example, connect the module to the breadboard. All module settings, including volume, EQ, and I2C address, are stored in NVM and are loaded each time the board is powered up. The I2C address of the board can be set using jumpers placed on the module or using software commands. MP3 Trigger plates can be connected with each other using Qwiic connectors in order to increase the number of played modules and to mix them with each other. The module works with a voltage of 3.3 V.

The product is compatible with Arduino!
The manufacturer has prepared a user guide along with a sample code for Arduino, which greatly facilitates the start of work with the module.

The module does not require soldering for proper operation, the connector used allows for quick connection with the main module and devices for sound reproduction. In addition, the manufacturer also offers the option of soldering pin / goldpin connectors. SparkFun Trigger for communication uses the I2C interface, on the board you can also find two Qwiic / STEMMA QT connectors.

  • RST (input) - Activated by low state. Low state resets the ATtiny84A chip.
  • INT (output) - Activated by low state. Goes low after playback is finished. Goes high when the CLEAR_INTERRUPTS command is used.
  • SCL (input) - The clock line of the I2C bus.
  • SDA (input / output) - Data line of the I2C bus.
  • 3.3V (power supply) - Supply voltage from 2.8V to 3.3V. Any voltage higher than 3.6V will damage the microSD card.
  • GND (power) - The ground of the system.
  • Trigger 1-4 (input) - When the trigger pin is shorted to ground, the file T00X.mp3 will be run.
