The research project that resulted in Arduino was started by Massimo Banzi, David Cuartielles, Tom Igoe, Gianluca Martino, and David Mellis at the Interaction Design Institute, in the Italian city of Ivrea, province of Turin. In 2005, the first Arduino board was introduced. It was initially used by students who had no experience in electronics and microcontroller programming. The Arduino project helped them to connect the physical world with the digital world. Since 2005, new development boards and software libraries have been systematically introduced, giving the platform more and more possibilities.
