UP Board and UP Squared and their outstanding capabilities
UP company offered two models of single-board microcomputers to do-it-yourselfers and robots. The first one is UP Board, which has low power consumption and very high computing performance. This is due to the presence of Intel ATOM x5-Z8350 processor, which are 64-bit chips clocked to 1.92 GHz. Fans of the exceptional visual experience will be delighted because the UP Board has an internal GPU on board, a new 8th generation Intel chip. This guarantees above-average 3D graphics performance. The memory in the microcomputer is 2 GB or 4 GB of DDR3L RAM and additionally 16 GB or 32 GB of eMMC Flash memory.
An alternative to UP Board is UP Squared, which is a bit stronger than UP. According to the manufacturer, it is the fastest x86 motherboard for programmers in the world. It is based on the latest Intel Apollo Lake platform. This mini computer features USB 3.0 ports, a 40-pin GPIO connector, an HDMI interface and two Gigabit Ethernet connectors. It is compatible with many operating systems, including Windows 10, Linux and Android, so you can decide for yourself how you want to use it. UP Squared is very versatile in use, as it's great for robot drone projects, as well as for complex home automation and visual identity systems.
Expand the capabilities of your UP microcomputer
The board itself offers a lot of functionality that allows you to experiment with new projects. Both beginners and experienced programmers and robots will like it. UP minicomputers are equipped with a 40-pin GPIO connector. This means that you can connect all kinds of peripherals and modules to them. Furthermore, you have digital serial interfaces, which include UART, I2C and SPI. With the I2S audio interface, you can transfer digital audio signals. There is also a possibility of connecting analogue signals, so that the microcomputer can be extended with even more different accessories.
