STM32 – huge computing power and almost unlimited connecting possibilities
STM32 microcontrollers were developed on 32-bit ARM cores. The first family of these processors introduced to the market, the STM32F1, used the modern ARM Cortex-M3 hardware architecture. The next editions of microcontrollers were based on even newer cores, such as ARM Cortex-M4 or M0 and M0 +. Currently, the most modern STM32F7 systems are based on the ARM Cortex-M7 core. It is one of the most efficient and technically advanced architectures used in microcontrollers.
STM32 microcontrollers are devices that are adapted to intensive and varied work. Their design allows for the connection of many analog peripherals and other input / output devices. Connecting fast ADC type converters (12 bit resolution and 1 Msps sampling frequency or more), DAC converters (also 12 bit) or fast hardware comparators will not be a problem at all. Among the digital peripherals that can be used for the STM32, there are extremely flexible hardware timers and a lot of different types of communication interfaces such as USART, UART, SPI, I2C, I2S, CAN, USB, OTG or even standard Ethernet - RJ45.
What more does the system architecture of STM32 microcontrollers allow for? STM32 housings and memories – there’s a lot to choose from!
The STM32 family of devices includes not only microcontroller boards, but also a lot of different specialized casings and various types of built-in Flash and RAM memories. In the sub-types (e.g. STM32F0) there are tiny, 20-pin TSSOP20 or WLCSP25 housings. The most popular are the systems in the LQFP32, LFQP48, LFQP64 and LFQP100 housings. You will find them in most devices manufactured by STM32.
More complex systems are also worth mentioning - mostly STM32F4 and STM32F7. The products are in LQFP144, 176 or 208, as well as UFBGA and TFBGA. The huge variety of these products means that there is really a lot to choose from. Remember that even microcontrollers from the same series and in the same housing can be found in different variants that differ in detailed technical specifications (e.g. amount of RAM, amount of Flash memory). For this reason, at first glance, similar modules may be sold at different prices.
