Product description: Gravity - Air Quality Sensor - SGP40 - DFRobot SEN0394
Air qualitysensor produced by DFRobot. It has a built-inSGP40chip (introduced by the well-known company Sensirion), which measures the VOC air quality in the rangefrom 0 ppm to 1000 ppm. The values are presented as VOCindexreadings - from 0 to 500. The air quality depends on what range the reading is in - the lower the VOC index value, the cleaner the air. The module usesI2Ccommunication interface. The longer thesensoris used, the better its sensitivity and accuracy of trend and change. In an average environment (with potentially low air pollution), the sensor can obtain an accurate VOC index immediately after use. Conversely, in a heavily polluted environment, the sensor may obtain an accurate VOC indicator approximately 1 hour after activation.
Product compatible with Arduino and Raspberry Pi
The manufacturer provides a detaileduser guidethat makes it significantly easier to get started with the module. It also provides libraries forArduino IDEandPythonenvironments.

Schematic of the connection of the DFRobot sensor to the Arduino equivalent circuit board. The board is not part of the kit, it can be purchased separately.
Pinout and connection diagram
The sensoris equipped with a connector compliant with the Gravity standard. Using this type of connector significantlysimplifiesandspeeds upthe process of connecting the sensor to the controller module - Raspberry Pi or Arduino and their boards. Connect the components according to the relationship:
- VCC (+) - power supply from 3.3 V to 5 V
- GND (-) - system ground
- SCL (C) - I2C bus clock line
- SDA (D) - I2C bus data line
