What is a converter?
A voltage converter, including high-power converters, sometimes also called a power converter or voltage converter, is an electrical or electromechanical device that enables powering of receivers from power supply systems whose connection parameters do not allow direct connection to the receiver. The converter changes the current and voltage values in a way that suits the receiver, with the lowest possible power loss. The lower the power losses, the higher the efficiency of the converter.
Types of converters and their applications
Looking at each power supply, you can safely call it a power converter. After all, its role is to reduce the consumed voltage and stabilize it. Systems that do not draw energy directly from the grid, but from another source, are most often called converters or converters. Those that produce a voltage much higher than their supply voltage are called high power converters. Typically, such devices are components of other devices and not stand-alone machines. The next type are inverters, which are most often powered by a battery and produce alternating current at a specific voltage.
Direct and alternating voltage
Different symbols apply depending on the type of voltage. The DC-DC designation refers to direct-to-constant voltage converters. DC-AC convert direct voltage into alternating voltage and are found, for example, in car power supplies producing 230 V. AC-AC converts alternating voltage into alternating current. Such processing is often used in online UPSs that provide power during power outages. AC-DC is a change of alternating voltage into direct current, used in virtually every electronic device, where the supply voltage after conversion powers circuits that usually require low direct voltage.
Converters in our store
Especially for you, we have prepared a rich offer in the high-power converters section, where we offer, for example, car DC/AC converters with a display, which enable the connection of devices requiring 230 V alternating power to the car installation. Thanks to them, you can connect a laptop, printer, lighting or small devices in the car. Household appliances. Another converter that can be used in a car is a DC/DC converter that changes 12 V to 24 V, which allows you to connect, for example, a CB radio, a parking heater or a portable refrigerator.
