Product description: Nicla Sense Env - environmental sensor module for Arduino Portenta / MKR - Arduino ABX00089
The Arduino Nicla Sense Env is an advanced sensor module that enables accurate, real-time measurement of environmental parameters . Thanks to three integrated Renesas sensors — HS4001, ZMOD4410 , and ZMOD4510 —the device measures humidity, temperature, indoor air quality (TVOC, CO2), and outdoor concentrations of harmful gases (NO2, O3). Its small size of 22.86 x 22.86 mm and low power consumption make the module ideal for IoT applications, automation, and prototyping using Arduino Portenta or MKR .

The board is equipped with a set of very low power sensors designed for indoor and outdoor applications.
Main features of Nicla Sense Env
- Advanced environmental sensors: integrated HS4001 (humidity and temperature), ZMOD4410 (TVOC, CO2), ZMOD4510 (NO2, O3)
- Compact size: only 22.86 x 22.86 mm - ideal for integration into projects with limited space
- Ultra-low power consumption: optimized for 24/7 operation in battery-powered systems
- Easy integration: communication via ESLOV (I2C) or pinout with Arduino IDE and MicroPython support
- Industrial strength: industrial-grade sensors from Renesas - reliable and accurate measurements
Pinouts and compatibility with the Arduino platform
The module has pins in the form of edge pins with cutouts, enabling surface mounting or classic connection to the motherboard. It supports the following interfaces: I2C, SPI, UART and two ADC inputs , with the possibility of programming the IO voltage in the range of 1.8V to 3.3V. Thanks to the ESLOV connector, the module easily works with the Arduino Portenta family (e.g., H7 , C33 ) and MKR (e.g., MKR WAN 1310 , MKR WiFi 1010 ), as well as with selected Nano and Uno R4 boards.

The module has an HS4001 sensor for measuring humidity and temperature and ZMOD4410AI1V and ZMOD4510AI1V sensors for detecting TVOC, NO2, O3 and other gases using artificial intelligence.
Supported Arduino software and libraries
The Arduino Nicla Sense Env is compatible with a wide range of development environments. It supports the classic Arduino IDE , Arduino CLI , and the Arduino Cloud editor. The module also supports MicroPython programming. Dedicated libraries are available: Arduino_NiclaSenseEnv (for reading sensor data) and the MicroPython Library, available on GitHub. Documentation and examples make it easy to integrate the module into any IoT and research project.
Practical applications
The Arduino Nicla Sense Env module is ideal for:
- air conditioning and HVAC systems to control humidity and air quality
- intelligent air purifiers - as an input data sensor
- smoke and harmful gas detection systems
- industrial automation - air monitoring in heat pumps and production plants
- research and prototype projects using the Arduino platform
