Product description: Pololu DRV8833 - two-channel motor controller 10.8 V / 1.2 A
The module based on the Texas Instruments DRV8833 system is a two-channel DC motor driver. The advantage of the system are extremely small dimensions - the board is the size of a DIP 14-pin housing. The module can control motors powered with the voltage in the range of 2.0 V to 11 V with a continuous current consumption of 1.2 V. The channels of the controller can be connected to increase the current efficiency - up to 2.4 A. The kit includes the module and goldpin connectors.
Connecting a two-channel motor controller 10.8 V / 1.2 A - Pololu DRV8833
For the correct operation of the module, you must connect the power supply - between the pins - VIN and GND and connect the pins responsible for the motor movement, the description of which is in the table below. In order to control the rotational speed, a PWM signal should be given to the direction control inputs.
PIN | Description |
VIN | Supply voltage (2.7 V - 10.8 V) |
GND | System mass potential |
VMM | Power output with reverse connection protection. |
AOUT1, AOUT2 | Channel A outputs controlled by pins AIN1 and AIN2 |
BOUT1, BOUT2 | Channel B outputs controlled by pins BIN1 and BIN2 |
AIN1, AIN2 | Digital inputs controlling channel A. It is possible to connect PWM signal to them. Defaults to low. |
BIN1, BIN2 | Digital inputs controlling channel B. It is possible to connect PWM signal to them. Defaults to low. |
nSLEEP | The low state causes the system to go into sleep mode - low power consumption. Default in high state (pull-up). |
nFAULT | The output goes low when an error is detected related to too low supply voltage, too high temperature of the system or too high current. |
AISEN | The output allows to limit the current for channel A. The default is low - no limitation. |
BISEN | The output allows to limit the current for channel B. The default is low - no limitation. |
Limiting the flowing current
There are solder pads on the module that allow resistors to be placed in the housing 1206 or smaller. They are used to limit the current flowing through the channel A and B.Szczegóły documentation systemDRV8833.
Heat dissipation with two-channel motor controller 10.8 V / 1.2 A - Pololu DRV8833
The documentation of the DRV8833 system states that the maximum continuous current per channel is 1.5 A. Tests by Pololu have shown that when the current is 1.5 A, the temperature protection switches the system off after about a minute of continuous operation. Stable operation is possible with a current below 1.3 A per channel.
