Raspberry Pi cameras and their huge capabilities
Raspberry Pi cameras come in different variants. There are different models on the market. The first camera has already met the requirements of Raspberry’s fans at the time, but its successor turned out to be even more desirable for photography enthusiasts and people who decided to create an intelligent environment monitoring system on their own. The newer version of the camera eliminated the 5Mpix OmniVision OV5647 sensor and used Sony IMX219 solution with 8 Mpix resolution. As a result of this conversion, the quality of the recorded image has been significantly improved. A big advantage of the Raspberry Pi Camera V2 overlay is the ability to record and shoot in HD quality. It will meet the expectations of the most demanding users, as well as those who are looking for their first hardware. It is easy to use, and at the same time offers many additional features. Noteworthy features include lime-lapse recording. It is possible to use special effects, which are added to the image due to the availability of a dedicated software library. The camera can record in 1080p30, 720p60, and VGA90 modes, and the camera is suitable for compatibility with Raspberry Pi series 1, 2, 3, and 4. The overlay is equipped with removable multicable tape, 15 cm long. It is connected to the CSI connector, which is located on Raspberry board.
Connecting the camera to Raspberry Pi - correctly, quickly and safely
As with all other overlays for Raspberry Pi, also those with cameras are easy to connect, but there are several important issues to remember, so that the installation can be carried out correctly and the system works without any failures. You need to know that the cameras are highly sensitive to electrostatic discharge and therefore can be damaged before being used. Therefore, get rid of electrostatic charges from your hands before unpacking the camera. You can do this in a very simple way. All you have to do is touch a metal object in your environment. Now you can start unpacking the camera and installing it.
Release the CSI latch on Raspberry Pi board. Slide the blue cover facing the Ethernet connector into the CSI connector. The exception is the Raspberry Pi 4B, where the connector is located between the micro HDMI and 3.5mm audio jack. The tape leads must be evenly inserted into the connector. The tape has to be fixed and pressed into the CSI connector latches on both sides. This is the last step you have to take to try out how the camera board you installed works. So Raspberry Pi is not only a microcomputer for programmers, but also an interesting equipment for recording videos, taking pictures or monitoring buildings.
