Types of materials used in the production of spacers
Spacers find a wide range of applications - both in mounting individual printed circuit boards or their sets (stacks), as well as in many mechanical systems, mock-ups and development kits , or... 3D printers and robots . Metal sleeves, most often brass, are perfect for supporting heavier components - especially if relatively long distances are needed (of the order of several dozen millimeters). Metal spacers will also work well in applications operating at high temperatures (e.g. near 3D printer heads or near heat sinks). Plastic elements (most often nylon or polyamide) have a number of other advantages - they provide excellent electrical insulation (which is especially important in systems operating at different potentials, in the network parts of power supplies, etc.), and can also compensate for slight dimensional differences if the accuracy of the corresponding the holes in both plates are too small to allow the use of rigid metal spacers. Distance is a necessary element in the workshop of every electronics and robotics engineer.
Threads, types and shapes of spacers
Metal spacers are most often produced in the form of hexagonal sleeves (although there are also versions with a round cross-section), while in the case of plastic elements, round and hexagonal sleeves are equally common. Hexagonal designs are usually offered with two different threads (internal and external) or both internal threads, while round spacers can have both threads and through, smooth axial holes. In the case of threads, their size is most often given in the metric standard (e.g. M2, M2.5, M3), while for round sleeves, manufacturers simply provide two diameters (outer and inner). The use of spacers with external-internal thread allows for easy assembly of many tiles one above the other by screwing the external thread of one spacer into the hole of the next one.
Spacers available at the Botland store
In this category you will find a wide range of nylon sleeves of various lengths - 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12, 15, or 20 mm with a smooth through hole , as well as threaded spacers (F/W) with lengths from 6 to 25 mm. We also supply brass spacers in various lengths, with both M3 and M4 threads. Especially for Raspberry Pi boards, we have prepared sets of spacers with compatible screws and even nuts, the sleeves have M2.5 threads and are 10, 20 or 30 mm long. For people who often DIY and owners of professional workshops, we recommend entire sets of connecting elements made of metal or nylon and offered in convenient, practical organizers.
