What are DC motor controllers and what are they used for?
In the chain of electromechanical drive systems, the DC motor controller is a device constituting an intermediate link between the control system and the supply voltage source and the motor. The control system is increasingly based on a previously programmed microcontroller and its task is to send appropriate control signals necessary for the proper operation of the engine - particularly important here is the adjustable pulse width (PWM) signal, which influences the direct current consumed by the engine in terms of its average value over specific time intervals, which translates into the correct setting of the output power on the engine shaft and its rotational speed. Due to the fact that most microcontrollers available on the market have a limited output current of several dozen milliamps, and DC electric motors are characterized by a rated current consumption from several to even several dozen amperes, it is necessary to use an intermediary system, in the form of a special controller that solves problem of regulating the flow of current supplying the motor.
