Creating an embedded computer is a difficult task due to the numerous parameters and limitations that need to be taken into account, as well as very high-tech creation paths. Today, however, we deal with embedded computers practically everywhere. Just take a look around to see modern LCD touchscreens in your immediate surroundings. We can also admire the incredible intelligence of devices that use processors, distinguished by their powerful computing performance. This applies not only to industrial apparatus or video equipment but also to ticket machines on buses and trams, which increasingly rarely resemble those of a few years ago. To design signal paths and high-speed busbars, you need a lot of technical knowledge, as well as experience and great skills. However, the manufacturers of Raspberry Pi decided to make this task easier for us and offered the Raspberry Pi Compute Module, i.e. ready-made modules to create an embedded computer.

The designers of the Raspberry Pi Compute Module are perfectly aware of what a big undertaking it is to develop a new design of an embedded computer. It is necessary to take into account integrated circuits with a very dense raster, most of them available only in BGA packages. In addition, all features of the designed circuits should be taken into account, including particularly high requirements regarding the routing of paths for fast signals (e.g. DDR memory), differential pairs (USB, Ethernet), and the power supply system, heat dissipation and EMC requirements should be carefully considered. Additionally, there is the issue of compatibility of individual components and the huge amount of work necessary to run the operating system on the new hardware platform. That is why the Raspberry Pi Foundation has introduced a series of Raspberry Pi Compute Modules - miniaturized "raspberries". They make it incredibly easy to build new projects using the computing power of Raspberry.
A raspberry that lives on your circuit board!
The main assumption when designing the Raspberry Pi Compute Module was to maintain full software compatibility with the main product line, while simplifying the integration of the computer with the motherboard of the target application. The module has the form of a printed circuit board with dimensions of 67.6x31 mm, compatible with a 200-pin SODIMM connector, so it is enough to place the appropriate socket on the newly designed PCB and provide the necessary amount of space. After connecting the power supply and the necessary GPIO lines and digital interfaces, the "raspberry" is ready for operation. And there is a lot to choose from - the latest version of Raspberry Pi Compute Module 3+ offers as many as 48 GPIO lines, and the number of available interfaces can be dizzying - the available ones include: 2 x I2C, 2 x SPI, 2 x UART, HDMI, USB 2.0 or a number of parallel interfaces for camera modules and LCD displays.
Raspberry Pi Compute Module offer in the Botland store
Our offer includes a number of minicomputers for built-in Raspberry Pi Compute Module, from the CM3 and CM3 Lite versions to the latest CM3+ and CM3+ Lite. The first two provide you with an efficient BCM2837 processor clocked at 1.2 GHz, 1 GB of RAM, and the CM3 version has an additional 4 GB of eMMC non-volatile memory. In turn, the CM3+ product line includes - in addition to the newer BCM2837B0 processor - also various sizes of eMMC memory (8, 16 or 32 GB, although an inexpensive version without eMMC is also available).
