The Pololu 5440 module is equipped with the Allegro ACS37041KLHBLT-010B3 Hall Effect sensor. The low current path resistance of approximately 1.6 mΩ reduces power loss during measurement, while differential magnetic field measurement reduces the influence of external, uniform magnetic fields on the result. The analog output voltage varies proportionally to the direction and magnitude of the measured current, allowing the sensor to easily interface with a microcontroller's ADC input.

Pinout and connection of the ACS37041 current sensor

For proper operation, the module requires five connections: IP+, IP-, VDD, GND, and VOUT . A 3 V to 3.6 V power supply should be applied between VDD and GND, and VOUT should be connected to the analog input of a microcontroller or other measuring system. The measured current flows through the IP+ and IP- terminals, and the direction marked on the board as positive causes the output voltage to increase above 1.65 V; flow in the opposite direction causes it to drop. For a current of 0 A, the VOUT voltage is approximately 1.65 V , and each 1 A current change causes a voltage change of approximately 132 mV . The relationship can be written as: VOUT = 1.65 V + 0.132 V/A x IP , while the current value can be determined from the formula: IP = (VOUT - 1.65 V) / 0.132 V/A . The VDD, GND and VOUT points work with standard 2.54 mm pitch goldpins, while the high current path can be connected via directly soldered wires, terminal blocks with a pitch of 3.5 mm or 5 mm or appropriately spaced goldpin connectors.
