Adafruit: the power of a woman's passion
Adafruit was founded in 2005 by an MIT graduate with exceptional programming skills, Limor "Ladyada" Fried. Her goal was to create the best possible learning environment for electronics and to release products that would be useful to all different age groups with varying skill levels. Right now, the company employs more than a hundred people in central New York in an approximately 50,000-square-foot factory. Adafruit is constantly expanding its offerings, releasing only products that Limor has personally selected, tested and ultimately approved. A rather unusual and interesting note is that the company is a 100% woman-owned company.
Adafruit operations
Many of Adafruit's devices are manufactured in a factory in New York City. This is where all the work is done - from designing circuit board schematics to printing, soldering, testing, debugging and much more. Thanks to hard work and Adafruit's unique Pick and Place machine, the company has already produced over 3 million boards in just 3 years. In addition to manufacturing electronics, the company also hosts programs and videos - including "Ask a Engineer" and "Show & Tell," which you can watch every Wednesday night.
Adafruit - a company full of engineers
As founder and chief engineer of Adafruit, Limor Fried works with a team of talented engineers to create products together. The company has introduced its own educational board that supports MakeCode, CircuitPython (a language created by Adafruit) and works with Arduino.
