Solenoid valves are used mainly in the heating, industry and automotive sectors. There are several types of valves, the smallest ones are controlled by computers or microcomputers. Solenoid valves are responsible for controlling and regulating the flow of liquid or gas, depending on what medium is in the system. The solenoid is the control element. When current flows through it, magnetic fields are generated and the valve position changes. We can distinguish between solenoid valves equipped with servo-assistance and direct acting devices. You should know, however, that in solenoid valves the medium can flow in one direction only, these are unidirectional devices. Solenoid valves are used in electronic projects, where pneumatic or hydraulic solutions are used. They are perfect for amateurs and already experienced electricians and robots.

Solenoid valves are electrically controlled using an electromagnetic field changing the position of the profession. The solenoid coil is of key importance for work efficiency. They are characterized by a simple design, which translates into high reliability of this element. The solenoid valves combine control mechanisms with additional electric actuators. Such a solution can be found, among others, in domestic central heating systems. The flow of medium in solenoid valves can be closed or open, taking place only in one direction. Therefore, the main valve and coil, which is an electromagnet, are the basic components of the solenoid valves. It can be available in different variants, which differ in voltage and size. As far as the main valve is concerned, its task is to control the medium flow.
Where are solenoid valves used?
The simple design and construction, as well as the functioning, make the solenoid valves ideal for a wide variety of projects, both more and less advanced. They have a versatile application and a wide range of uses. They are particularly common in refrigeration and heating installations, pneumatic systems and air compressors. Solenoid valves are also used in many devices and equipment that we deal with on a daily basis and use in frequently repeated activities at home, work and other areas of our lives. This applies, among others, to washing equipment and industrial washing machines. Solenoid valves are also used in coffee machines, food processing machines, compressors and boilers, dental and laboratory equipment. Furthermore, they are used in vacuum pumps, water and sewage systems and machines designed for moulding products made of plastics.
Solenoid valves for direct and indirect operation
Solenoid valves can be divided into several groups, including the most popular division which includes indirect and direct acting solenoid valves. When it comes to indirect action devices, i.e. servo-assisted devices, they are used wherever it is impossible to use a direct action valve due to medium pressure or pipe cross-section. This makes the solenoid valves suitable for use in industrial areas where a large flow of gas or liquid is observed. However, indirect acting solenoid valves have a lower service life. The opening and closing time is longer, so they are not the best choice for every project. Only direct-acting valves are suitable for electronic projects where special precision in medium dosing is required, i.e. gas or liquid.
