The Adafruit Sparkle Motion Stick is a compact controller for addressable LED strips and modules based on the ESP32 microcontroller. Optimized for use with the popular WLED software, the board offers two outputs for NeoPixel strips and modules , a built-in I2S microphone for music-responsive effects, and an infrared receiver for remote control. The module is powered directly via USB Type-A at 5V , allowing you to use standard USB power supplies or power banks. A built-in 2A polymer fuse protects the device from overload. With WiFi and Bluetooth support and compatibility with the Arduino IDE, ESP-IDF, MicroPython, and CircuitPython, the board can also function as a versatile ESP32 module for your own IoT and automation projects.

Connectivity, pinouts and compatibility
The Adafruit Sparkle Motion Stick features two signal outputs designed to control addressable LEDs , such as NeoPixel, WS2812B, SK6812, and compatible models. Both outputs feature hardware logic level conversion to 5V , which increases data transmission reliability even over longer wires. The board also includes 5V power and GND pins for direct connection to LED strips. The built-in IR receiver operates on GPIO10 . The I2S microphone uses the GPIO12, GPIO13, and GPIO14 lines. Thanks to WiFi communication, the device can be controlled via a web browser, WLED mobile apps, or integrated with home automation systems. The module works with LED strips, 2D LED matrices, light curtains, stage decorations, cosplay installations, IoT projects, and smart lighting systems.
The controller has been designed to be fully compatible with WLED.

Programming and supported environments
The heart of the device is the classic ESP32 , which ensures broad compatibility with popular programming tools. In addition to out-of-the-box support for WLED, the module can be programmed in the Arduino IDE, ESP-IDF, MicroPython, and CircuitPython environments. The built-in CH343 USB-UART converter with auto-reset allows for convenient firmware uploads without additional programmers. With access to GPIO21, GPIO22, GPIO0, GPIO10, and the I2S interface, you can create your own LED drivers, IoT projects, audio devices, automation controllers, and interactive sound-responsive installations. The board is suitable for both rapid prototyping and off-the-shelf devices using wireless communication, LED control, and networking functions.
