Your MK4S as an enclosed CoreXY printer

The CORE One+ (Gen 2) upgrade kit contains the parts that turn a Prusa MK4S printer into an enclosed CoreXY 3D printer with a steel frame and a chamber up to 55 °C. CoreXY kinematics and a high-flow nozzle speed up printing without losing print quality.

After assembly the printer is faster, takes up less space than an enclosed MK4S and prints in a larger build volume of 250 x 220 x 270 mm. The enclosed chamber heats up to 55 °C, so you can print ASA, ABS, polycarbonate and nylon without warping the model's edges.

This offer covers the kit for printers with the newer version of the xLCD display. We also offer the Prusa CORE One+ (Gen 2) for self-assembly.

Assembling the steel CORE One+ frame on a workbench

Assembly based on parts from your MK4S

The Prusa CORE One+ reuses many proven Original Prusa MK4S parts, which is exactly why the upgrade is possible at all. You move the bed plates, hotends, nozzles and many other components over from the old printer, and the kit supplies everything else.

The manual guides you through the process: from reviewing the MK4S and disassembly, through assembling the base, bed, CoreXY axes and print head, to the enclosure, door, display and first calibration. The manufacturer rates the assembly as moderate difficulty.

The new frame is a steel exoskeleton in which the enclosure is part of the structure and stiffens the whole printer. The design has no glued parts, so every component can be removed and replaced, which makes the printer easy to service and modify.

What is new in the Gen 2 generation

The Gen 2 generation of the kit takes over proven hardware improvements from the CORE One L printer and all the software updates released since the CORE One launch:

  • Automatic vent: open for PLA and PETG, closed for ABS or ASA
  • Easy loading of flexible filaments: a new filament entry point
  • Bayonet spool holder: for spools of various sizes, ready for a dry box

The Nextruder head has print cooling from every side (360°), which according to the manufacturer lets you print overhangs at a 75° angle cleanly. The force sensor calibrates the first layer automatically, and factory-prepared profiles cover over 200 filaments.

Is it right for you?

A good choice if:

  • you want to print in an enclosed chamber
  • you want to reuse the plates, hotends and nozzles you already have
  • you plan to print with ASA, ABS, polycarbonate or nylon

Consider another option if:

  • you do not have an MK4S: choose the CORE One+ (Gen 2) printer for self-assembly
  • you do not want to assemble anything: choose the assembled CORE One+ (Gen 2)

What changes compared with the MK4S

ChangeWhat it means
Build volume: 250 x 210 x 220 mm → 250 x 220 x 270 mm10 mm more on the Y axis and 50 mm on the Z axis, so taller models in one piece
Chamber: none (optional enclosure, up to 45 °C) → built in, up to 55 °Cactive chamber temperature control when printing ASA, ABS, PC and nylon
Frame: aluminum profiles → steel exoskeletonthe enclosure is part of the structure and stiffens the printer
Sensors: 1 filament sensor, 4 thermistors → 2 sensors, 5 thermistors, door sensorthe printer watches the filament in two places and knows whether the door is closed
Lighting: RGB strip by the display → chamber lighting and RGB strips by the bed and displayan illuminated chamber and status signaling with RGB strips

Frequently asked questions

Does the kit fit the MK4?

No. The manufacturer states that the kit is compatible only with the Original Prusa MK4S. From the MK4S you move to the CORE One+ directly, without other upgrades.

How do I check my xLCD version?

Compare your MK4S display with the manufacturer's photos of the newer and older xLCD. This kit fits the newer version, the older one needs a different variant.

I have a silver power supply. Now what?

Before the upgrade, replace it with a black power supply together with the matching cables. The manufacturer states that moving from the MK4S to the CORE One+ is possible only with a black power supply in your printer.

Can I use my plates and nozzles?

Yes. The CORE One+ uses many parts of the MK4S, so your existing bed plates, hotends and nozzles will also keep working in the new CORE One+ printer after the upgrade.

Can I print ABS and ASA?

Yes. The chamber heats up to 55 °C, which limits warping. For printing ABS, ASA, HIPS and PA, the manufacturer recommends the optional air filtration system.

Does CORE One+ support MMU3?

Yes. With the MMU3 module you can print with one nozzle using up to five different filaments, and the waste from each color change goes into a single compact block.
