CORE One+ (Gen 2): enclosed 3D printer to build yourself

Original Prusa CORE One+ (Gen 2) self-assembly kit is an enclosed CoreXY 3D printer with a 250 x 220 x 270 mm build volume and a chamber that heats up to 55 °C. Once built, you have exactly the same printer as the assembled version, with the same warranty, and you get to know every part of it along the way.

The second generation keeps the proven CORE One platform and adds GT1.5 belts, a nozzle wiper and a new heatbed mounting that lets prints start sooner.

What makes this model stand out

CoreXY printer in a steel frame that you build and repair yourself

CORE One+ (Gen 2) has a steel exoskeleton that also serves as the enclosure, and no part is glued, so the whole printer comes apart with an ordinary screwdriver. Keep in mind that assembly takes about 12 hours according to the manufacturer, so if you want to print right after unboxing, choose the assembled version.

Assembling the CORE One+ frame on a workbench

Assembly like a large construction set

The box contains all parts and tools, and the online Prusa manual guides you step by step through 10 chapters, from the frame base to the first calibration. You do not need to solder or crimp any wires, and you lubricate the bearings with the included Prusa lubricant.

  • The manufacturer states that assembly takes about 12 hours, usually a weekend project
  • The kit includes a full toolset: uni-wrench, 13-16 wrench, pliers, Allen and Torx keys
  • The manual has high-resolution photos and comments from other users at every step
  • Once assembled, the printer checks its components and calibrates the first layer by itself

Second generation: cleaner start and faster preparation

Before every print, the nozzle passes over the built-in wiper that removes leftover filament, so no strings or blobs end up on the print surface. The new heatbed mounting removes the separate wait for the bed to absorb heat with materials printed at bed temperatures up to 85 °C, such as PLA and PETG.

  • GT1.5 belts make fine repeating patterns on smooth walls less visible
  • You remove the top panel in seconds without tools, which makes cleaning easier
  • The vent opens automatically for PLA and PETG and closes for high-temperature materials
  • A new filament entry point makes loading flexible TPU easier

Prints made from a single spool of Prusament PLA

Chamber up to 55 °C for PLA, PETG, ASA, PC and nylon

The enclosed chamber heats up to 55 °C, and the printer constantly measures the temperature and adjusts ventilation to the selected material. As a result, engineering materials, meaning plastics more resistant to heat and impact, such as ASA, PC and nylon, warp less, and you print PLA with the door closed.

  • Nextruder print head with a Load Cell sensor, in which the nozzle itself measures the bed height
  • 360° cooling lets you print steep overhangs without supports
  • Magnetic heatbed with removable PEI spring steel sheets
  • Works with any 1.75 mm filament, not only Prusament

A good choice for you?

A good choice if:

  • you enjoy building and want to know the printer inside out so you can service it yourself
  • you are looking for an enclosed CoreXY printer for PLA, PETG, ASA, PC and nylon
  • you want a printer that you can later upgrade to multi-material printing

Consider another option if:

What has changed compared to CORE One

ChangeWhat it means
Automatic top vent (since CORE One+)the printer opens the vent by itself for PLA and PETG and closes it for high-temperature materials
Easy loading of flexible filaments (since CORE One+)new filament entry point that lets you load TPU quickly
Bayonet-style spool holder (since CORE One+)fits spools of various sizes and is ready to feed filament directly from a dryer
GT1.5 belts (Gen 2)repeating patterns on large, smooth surfaces are finer and less visible
Built-in nozzle wiper (Gen 2)the nozzle is cleaned of filament before every print
New heatbed mounting (Gen 2)no wait for the bed to absorb heat with materials up to 85 °C, and a shorter wait at higher temperatures
Snap-on top panel (Gen 2)you remove it in seconds without tools, and the vent mechanism is more robust
Unchangedthe 250 x 220 x 270 mm build volume, chamber up to 55 °C and Nextruder print head are the same as in CORE One

Fun fact

It started with one open-source printer

In 2010, Josef Průša designed an open-source 3D printer that hobbyists could afford. Today Prague-based Prusa Research employs more than 1,000 people and still publishes the CAD files and firmware code of its printers openly.

Frequently asked questions

How long does it take to assemble the CORE One+ (Gen 2) kit?

The manufacturer states about 12 hours, which in practice is usually a weekend project. The manual has 10 chapters, all tools are included and no soldering is needed.

Is the kit different from the assembled version?

Once built, you get an identical printer with the same warranty and the same parameters. The assembled version is factory-calibrated and comes with a 1 kg spool of Prusament PLA and a Prusa Academy course.

How does CORE One+ (Gen 2) differ from CORE One+?

The second generation has GT1.5 belts, a built-in nozzle wiper, a new heatbed mounting that shortens print preparation and a snap-on top panel. The build volume and chamber are the same.

What materials can I print on CORE One+ (Gen 2)?

The manufacturer lists PLA, PETG, Flex, PVA, PC, PP, CPE and PVB, and as advanced materials ABS, ASA, HIPS and PA. The printer works with any 1.75 mm filament, and PrusaSlicer has more than 200 ready-made profiles.

Can I print without the internet?

Yes. You can set up, update and operate the printer fully offline and load files from a USB drive. You can unplug the Wi-Fi module, and Prusa Connect for remote monitoring is optional.

Can I add multi-color printing later?

Yes. CORE One+ (Gen 2) works with MMU3, which handles 5 filaments, and with the INDX toolchanger for up to 8 colors or materials in one print.
