Description
A miniature LED Matrix in red consists of 64 LEDs, arranged in 8 rows and 8 columns. The LEDs are connected with 16 pins, 8 on each side of the matrix at intervals of 2.5 mm, which makes it easy to place it in the breadboard. All anodes in the same row are connected to one pin and all cathodes in the same column are connected to another pin. The matrix requires for proper operation a multiplex 1:8. We recommend you to use a 74HC595 and TPIC6B595 or just a single MAX7219 which will do the multiplexing work for you.
The MAX7219 control system communicates via the SPI bus, which means it can be easily controlled using microcontrollers in the AVR and modules Arduino. The description, together with a library and a model program for users of Arduino can be found at this address.
