Types of WiFi routers
Routers often appear as access points - in this case the user benefits from the functionality of several different devices, enclosed in a single housing. For example: many routers offered by telecommunication operators provide not only the functionality of a classic router, but also include a built-in modem for connecting to the optical fibre network or telephone network (ADSL) available in the building, or even an LTE modem, enabling data transfer via mobile networks. The vast majority of routers act in some sense as small network switches, offering users several Ethernet ports - usually in the form of 4 or 5 RJ-45 sockets. Therefore, when choosing a router for a specific application, it is worth to consider whether we actually need the functionality of a modem of a given type, or whether the only use of the device will be e.g. sharing a wireless network after a wired connection with the LAN of the building.
Mobile routers vs. stationary routers
Stationary routers are definitely more popular than their mobile counterparts - they can be found in almost all home and business WiFi networks. Models available on the market differ in parameters, including mainly the mode of operation (older devices supported only the 2.4 GHz band, whereas new ones - WiFi dual band, i.e. 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz). In addition, routers differ in the number of antennas, as well as in the options for advanced configuration and built-in security features. A very important element differentiating individual stationary routers is the presence and type of a built-in ADSL, fibre-optic or LTE modem.
Mobile routers, on the other hand, are equipped with their own power source, unlike stationary routers, which require power supply from an external plug adapter in all cases. The power source in the case of mobile routers is the battery, so they are usually charged via a micro USB port. These devices use 4G LTE communication, they also support older 3G connections, and their great advantage is not only the ability to work in the field, but also the ability to provide uninterrupted wireless connection in case of power grid failure.
Routers in Botland store offer
In our offer you will find a wide selection of routers, both stationary and mobile from different manufacturers. They are perfect for building home networks, as well as for expanding the computer network in a small company. The most basic model is Tenda F3 router providing wireless connectivity up to 300 Mbps. At a very attractive price, it provides the user with a number of advanced features typical for more expensive models, including 3-port Ethernet switch and support for MIMO technology, which - thanks to three WiFi antennas with 5 dBi gain - can support multiple devices simultaneously.
A popular router in this price range is also branded TP-LINK TL-WR841N, also with 300 Mbps throughput and 4-port Ethernet switch. It is also worth to pay attention to advanced devices from D-Link, like the DIR-853/EE AC1300, with throughput up to 400 Mbps in 2.4 GHz band and 867 Mbps in 5GHz band. The device has up to 4 antennas, making it suitable for serving multiple clients at the same time. The router has also been equipped with advanced security features. It is also worth to pay attention to small mobile routers, like Alcatel MW40V Link Zone, or Huawei E5576-320, supporting 4G LTE transmission and throughput up to 150 Mb/s.
