The Waveshare USB to RS485 (B) converter is a compact converter designed for connecting RS485 devices to a computer via USB . Original CH343G and SP485EEN chips ensure fast and stable signal conversion, while hardware transmission direction control eliminates the need to manually switch transmit and receive modes. The RS485 interface is connected to a detachable screw-type connector with A+, B-, and GND lines. Three LEDs indicate power and transmitter and receiver activity. A built-in 120Ω terminating resistor, polymer fuse, and extensive protection circuitry enhance the device's reliability in environments exposed to interference, electrostatic discharge, and surges.

RS485 transmission up to 1.2 km
The converter converts the USB signal to a differential RS485 signal , which is highly resistant to electromagnetic interference. This makes it suitable for use in production halls, buildings, laboratories and extensive automation installations. The maximum declared RS485 connection length is approximately 1.2 km at a lower transmission speed , while the USB connection length can be approximately 5 m . The device supports point-to-multipoint transmission with up to 32 nodes . The actual range depends on factors such as transmission speed, cable quality and type, installation method, bus termination, and interference levels.
The transmission distance is about 1.2 km for RS485 and about 5 m for USB.

Compatibility of the RS485 adapter with operating systems
