What are PTFE tubing and pneumatic connectors used for?
PTFE tubes are used as a shielded filament guide. Their function is to keep the material on the correct path from the moment it is picked up from the spool until it enters the extruder or other point in the transport system. This prevents the filament from moving freely between printer components, but instead follows a defined path, which helps maintain order and reduces the risk of disruptions during operation. The low coefficient of friction characteristic of PTFE is crucial here, as it reduces resistance during material movement and supports even filament feeding. A properly selected inner diameter of the tube also affects guiding stability, reducing the possibility of excessive play, material vibration, and local blockages in the transport path.
Pneumatic connectors, in turn, ensure a secure connection between the tubes and the rest of the system. They hold the tube in the correct position and allow for quick installation or replacement of a worn section. A properly fitted connector helps maintain the stability of the entire feed path and facilitates printer servicing when the tube needs to be disconnected, the system needs to be cleaned, or a specific section needs to be replaced. These components must ensure consistent tube seating and adequate clamping force to prevent it from shifting under load. Long PTFE tubes for self-cutting
