RP2040 with more pins and battery power
Seeed Studio XIAO RP2040 Plus is a Raspberry Pi RP2040 board that gives you 26 digital pins instead of 11 and charges a Li-ion battery. All of this fits in just 21 x 17.8 mm. Every one of these pins supports PWM, or pulse-width modulation, which you can use to control the brightness of LEDs and the speed of motors, and 4 of them work as analog inputs.
The chip has two Cortex-M0+ cores running at up to 133 MHz, 264 KB SRAM and 2 MB flash, just like the standard XIAO RP2040. You can write programs in Arduino, MicroPython, CircuitPython, TinyGo, Rust or C/C++, and the USB Type-C port is used for power and for uploading code.

What the Plus version adds
On the front, the board has the same 14-pin XIAO layout with 2.54 mm pitch, so it fits a breadboard and add-on boards such as the XIAO Expansion Board or the Grove Shield for XIAO. On the bottom and sides there are 15 additional SMD pads with 1.27 mm pitch, meaning solder pads that let you solder the XIAO directly onto your own PCB.
The new pads give you access to a second I2C bus, USB D+ and D- signals and the battery pins BAT+, BAT- and BAT_EN. The power management chip (PMIC) charges the battery from USB, an LED indicates charging, and a protection circuit prevents current from the 3V3 line from flowing back into the battery.

Frequently asked questions
How do I enter bootloader mode?
Hold down the B (Boot) button and connect the board to your computer. A drive appears in the system and the board waits for a new program, even if the previous upload failed.
How do I read the battery voltage?
Set GPIO24 (BAT_EN) high, read input A3 (GPIO29) and multiply the result by 2. After the measurement, switch BAT_EN off so you do not waste energy. While BAT_EN is on, A3 does not work as a regular input.
Why does the LED turn on when I set the pin to a low state?
The user LEDs on the XIAO RP2040 are turned on by a low state, the opposite of Arduino boards. LOW turns the LED on and HIGH turns it off.
