ESP32-S3 with more memory and additional pins
Seeed Studio XIAO ESP32-S3 Plus is a dual-core ESP32-S3 board with WiFi and Bluetooth, 18 general-purpose pins and 16 MB flash in 21 x 17.8 mm. The two Xtensa LX7 cores run at up to 240 MHz, and 8 MB of PSRAM, meaning additional working memory, holds image and audio buffers and machine learning models.
The board connects over 2.4 GHz WiFi and BLE 5.0, or Bluetooth Low Energy, and an external antenna for the U.FL connector is included. The manufacturer states that with this antenna the range exceeds 100 m. You can program the board in Arduino, MicroPython or ESP-IDF, and it charges a Li-ion battery at 100 mA.

The XIAO ESP32-S3 Plus has 16 MB flash, so it holds a larger program, web page files and data logging, and its 9 additional pins give you a second UART, a second SPI and I2S. Keep in mind that in deep sleep it draws 33.51 µA, so for a sensor that has to run for years on a battery, it is better to choose the XIAO nRF54LM20A.

What the Plus version adds
On the edges and the bottom of the board there are 9 additional pins in the form of SMD pads with 1.27 mm pitch, meaning castellated half-holes and solder pads that let you solder the XIAO onto your own PCB. They provide a second UART, a second SPI and I2S, meaning a digital audio interface. The battery pads, JTAG debugger pads and USB D+ and D- signals have the same layout as on other XIAO Plus boards.
The Plus version also has a B2B connector, meaning a socket through which expansion modules connect directly to the board. The front of the board stays unchanged, so the board fits add-on boards such as the XIAO Expansion Board, the Grove Shield for XIAO or the L76K GNSS module for XIAO.

Is it the right choice for you?

- your program, files or data logging do not fit in 8 MB of flash
- you are designing your own PCB and want to solder the XIAO onto it as a ready-made module

Over 100 m of range from a thumb-sized board
The manufacturer states that the XIAO ESP32-S3 Plus with the included U.FL antenna connects over a distance of more than 100 m. The antenna is included, and you plug it into the miniature socket on the board.

Frequently asked questions
Is the camera from the Sense version compatible with this board?
No. The B2B connector on the XIAO ESP32-S3 Plus does not work with the camera module from the XIAO ESP32-S3 Sense, and the board has no microSD card slot either.
How do I connect a battery?
Solder a 3.7 V Li-ion battery to the BAT pads on the bottom of the board. The red LED blinks while charging and goes off when the battery is full.
How much current does the board draw in deep sleep mode?
At a 3.8 V supply, the board draws 33.51 µA in deep sleep, 2.45 mA in light sleep and about 81 mA with WiFi active.
