Raspberry Pi 5, the latest version of the minicomputer beloved by many, surprises with its performance, which, according to the manufacturer, is to be 2 to 3 times greater than its predecessor. The key element behind this impressive performance is the 4-core BCM2712, 64-bit Cortex-A76 processor, clocked at 2.4 GHz, which is the heart of this system. For comparison, the Raspberry Pi 4 ran at 1.8 GHz.
One of the key improvements in Raspberry Pi 5 is also the expanded LPDDR4X-4267 RAM memory. At launch, users will have a choice of versions with 4 GB or 8 GB of RAM, but the marks on the motherboard suggest that we can also expect other variants.
Moreover, the new "Malina" is equipped with an advanced VideoCore VII graphics chip, supporting OpenGL ES 3.1 and Vulkan 1.2 technology. Thanks to this, users can connect two 4k monitors (60 fps) with HDR support, which will certainly please computer graphics enthusiasts.
Raspberry Pi 5 also offers a rich set of communication interfaces. Standard connectivity includes WiFi (802.11ac) and Bluetooth (5.0/BLE). Additionally, the motherboard includes a microSD card slot that supports fast SDR104 mode and a new connector with a PCIe 2.0 interface for connecting NVMe devices.
Another significant improvement is the dedicated RP1 I/O chip, which optimizes USB communication. Now Raspberry Pi 5 can support simultaneous transmission via two USB 3.0 ports at speeds of up to 5 Gbps, and also has two standard USB 2.0 ports.
