The company's origins date back to the 1870s and a Japanese company that began building telegraphs on behalf of the government. The next stage was the production of light bulbs. After nearly 40 years of development there was a crisis - caused by an earthquake in which many employees died. After these dramatic events, the company was rebuilt, but already in a changed shape and after numerous reorganizations it became Tokyo Shibaura Electric. The abbreviation "Toshiba" became popular quite quickly, but the name itself officially appeared only in 1987. At about the same time, the main specialization of the brand - semiconductor chips and computer equipment - was separated. The hallmark of the company - characteristic of many Japanese companies - is management system focused on continuous improvement. Today, Toshiba has an international network of subsidiaries and sells its products virtually all over the world. In Europe, there are two brand research laboratories - in Cambridge and Bristol.
