The story of the 3Doodler brand began relatively recently, in 2013. It was started by a Massachusetts start-up, and its creators raised funds for the development of the project through the crowfunding platform Kickstarter. The fundraising was a huge success, as Internet users interested in the innovation contributed more than $2 million 300 thousand, although the members of the startup themselves sought only $30 thousand. The creators of Kickstarter advertised their invention as the world's first 3D printing pen using ABS plastic. The mechanism of operation of the device was therefore similar to 3D printers with filaments, but the difference was that its small size and extremely simplified operation made it a gadget potentially accessible to ordinary (home) users, including children. In contrast to "smart" printers with heads, which perform the design given to them by the designer and drawn in CAD software, here there is no need for any design - everything depends only on the spatial "drawing", made by the user of the 3Doodler pen.

3Doodler's second launch

In 2016, the company was tempted to make another collection. Its goal was to complete work on the 3Doodler pen in version 2.0. As the founders of the startup declared, the new version of the product was to be completely redesigned with many user conveniences in mind. Manual 3D printing was to be much simpler and more convenient. Also this time the result of the fundraising far exceeded the expectations of the organizers - instead of the expected $ 30 thousand, the 3Doodler account was credited with more than $ 1.5 million. In the second fundraiser the authors also presented a slightly different concept of marketing positioning of the 3D pen - this time they strongly emphasized the possibility of using it in educational institutions, primarily for learning mathematics and technology. By the time the second edition of the product was announced, 3Doodler could already boast a lot of interesting inspirations from various industries - not only works of art made with its help, but also, for example, printed clothes presented by models during the show, or housings for flying structures, mainly drones. In 2017, however, a special commemorative edition of 3Doodler colored pens was created. On the current website of the manufacturer of handheld 3D printing devices, we can find information that more than 2.5 million pens have already reached the customers and they are used, among others, in several thousand classrooms around the world.
