A resistor is an electronic element that can be used to reduce the current flowing in a circuit. Resistors differ mainly in resistance, size and mounting method (SMD - surface-mounted, or THT - through-hole). Their resistance can be easily increased by simply placing more of them in series in the circuit - the resistance will be equal to the sum of the resistances of the individual components.

The use of resistors

A resistor is an element used in virtually every electronic system. When you open any electronic device with a visible printed circuit board, you can easily find soldered resistors. One of the first tasks for beginner electronics engineers is to select a resistor with the appropriate resistance. taking into account the power supply parameters (for example, a 9V battery) and LEDs. Then, using the breadboard and connecting wires, you can check the correctness of the task - the diode should light up brightly, but it should not heat up and burn out. In order to acquire such skills, you must first know Ohm's law, which states that the current is proportional to the voltage in a conductor. Elements made for THT (through-hole) assembly are particularly useful for this type of learning. Components can be easily mounted on a breadboard and test various solutions without the need for constant re-soldering on printed paths. Elements made in THT technology also work well when creating prototypes of electronic circuits on a breadboard and in devices where miniaturization is not of great importance. In turn, resistors made using SMD technology function better in the final versions of electronic devices (due to a much smaller amount of space).
